Kitchen base units are the floor-standing cabinets that sit on your kitchen floor and carry the worktop. They form the backbone of any kitchen, providing your main cupboard and drawer storage as well as the housings for sinks, hobs and integrated appliances.

Standard dimensions

UK base units follow consistent sizing so they line up neatly under a continuous run of worktop:

720mm high — with adjustable legs and a worktop this gives the standard ~900mm working height
570mm deep — around 590–600mm once doors are fitted
Widths from 300mm to 1000mm to suit any layout

Types of base unit

Base units come as single-door and double-door cupboards, drawer packs, and appliance and sink housings. You can also choose between highline (a single door front) and drawerline (a shallow drawer above a door) configurations depending on how you want to organise your storage.

How they are built

Our units use rigid 18mm MFC carcasses with an 8mm solid back and cam-and-dowel assembly. They are FIRA Gold certified with a 6-year warranty. A complete unit includes the cabinet, doors, hinges and soft-close drawers; handles and worktops are supplied separately.

Kitchen Base Units

You don't always have to spend a fortune to upgrade your kitchen. We have a full range of kitchen base units available to buy from Flat Pack Kitchens.

Flat Pack Kitchen Base Cabinets

We have a cabinet-only version available. The cabinets are available in four different colours, and a vast arrange of size combinations. They are 720mm high, 870mm including legs when the legs are fitted at the standard height of 150mm.

Kitchen Base Cabinets

Our units are made of 18mm MFC with a 1mm ABS edging on the front. They also have a 8mm solid back. They are assembled using pre-fitted cam and dowel joints. They can be assembled quickly but are robust enough to handle any wear and tear in a normal kitchen.

The kitchen base cabinets are pre-drilled for both left and right hanging. They also come with a single shelf with each unit.

Complete Kitchen Base Cabinets

For those wanting the complete package, we also have a wide range of kitchen base cabinets that come complete with base unit and doors, along with soft close hinges. You will just need to buy handles separately, but we also have that covered with our wide range of kitchen door handles available.

If you would prefer the complete kitchen cabinet option, just select the door style you would prefer, and then select the cabinet colour once you are within that particular range. Once again the kitchen base cabinets are available in four different finishes.
